In this tutorial, we will take you through the steps of setting up the MySQL database and user using a server control panel that is provided by most hosts. In this example, we are using cPanel. Other server control panels work in a very similar way.

Creating the Mambo Database

• Log in to the cPanel account that your hosting has provided.
• Once logged in, from the cPanel main page, click MySQL Databases.
• In the Databases Field, click the textbox corresponding to Db: and type the preferred database name.
• Click Add Database. The MySQL Account Maintenance screen will follow confirming that the database was added successfully, click [Go Back].

Creating the Mambo Database User

• In the Users Field, supply the preferred values for the UserName textbox and Password fields.
• Click Add User. The MySQL Account Maintenance screen will follow confirming that the user was added successfully, click [Go Back].

Adding the Mambo Database User to the Mambo Database

• In the Databases field, click the Users: drop-down box and select the username previously set up.
• Click the Db: drop-down box and select the database previously set up.
  NOTE: cPanel automatically puts the domain account prefix to the Database and Database user. (eg. domain_username and domain_database).
• Click Add User to Db. The MySQL Account Maintenance screen will follow confirming that the user was added to the database successfully, click Home on the cPanel toolbar.

That's it! You have created your new database to use with Mambo and have assigned a database user, which is how Mambo will connect to the new database.

Downloading the Latest Mambo Stable Version

• Download the Latest Mambo Stable Version from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mambo/  that comes in either zipped or gzipped tarball packages (Mambo_x.y.z.zip and Mambo_x.y.z.tar.gz).
• Save the downloaded Mambo package in your computer.

Uploading the Mambo package to the Server

• Log in to the CPanel account that your hosting has provided.
• Once logged in, from the CPanel main page, click File Manager. This will open another browser window which displays the File Manager screen.
• Click the Folder icon corresponding to the public_html folder. This changes the current directory to /public_html - the web documents folder. NOTE: In CPanel File Manager, click on the Folder icon to navigate and change directories, click on the Filename to display folder/file properties and associated basic operations.
• Click Upload Files.
• Click Browse. Locate the Mambo Package previously downloaded then click Open.
• Click Upload. Wait for a few minutes until the browser updates the screen and finishes the upload process.

Uncompressing the Mambo Package on the Server

• Navigate to the /public_html folder.
• Click the filename of the uploaded Mambo Package in the File Manager under the /public_html folder. This will update the right frame of the Mambo Manager and will show the file properties and associated basic operations for the package.
• On the right frame of the Mambo Manager, click Extract File Contents.
• A new window will open showing all the files extracted. Close this window after the uncompression process is finished.
