The Mambo Foundation is a non-profit corporation formed in August 2005 to serve as a supporting organisation for the Mambo Open Source Project. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide support and protection for the development of the Mambo software system, ensuring its longevity as an open source, volunteer project.

Membership consists of all Mambo contributors who wish to become members of the Foundation and who go through the application process. Members can run for election to the Board of Directors, vote in the elections for the Board of Directors, and suggest items for consideration by the Board.  The Foundation Board of Directors is appointed through nomination and election by the membership each year.

While you don't have to be a member to be part of the community, to develop modules, components or templates , or to download and use the code, you do have to be a member to participate in governing the project. Membership is open to anyone with the demonstrated inclination to participate and the willingness to stay informed on matters of concern to the project.
